Kavita to model RM100mil dress

For sale: Faisol with the RM100mil ‘Nightingale of KL’ dress.

THE much-talked about RM100mil dress will be unveiled tonight at the STYLO Fashion Grand Prix KL at the Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens.

Named “Nightingale of KL”, the dress designed by Faisol Abdullah of Jendela KL will be paraded by actress Kavita Sidhu.

The dress is adorned with 750 pieces of diamonds weighing over 1,000 carats and held together by a 70-carat tear-drop diamond from jeweller Mouawad.

The team at Jendela KL is working on the dress.

The deep-red, off-shoulder dress, made out of 80 metres of material dyed using the batik technique, is set to be an iconic creation.

The dress is a combination of Tafetta, raw silk, satin silk, satin net and chiffon.

The tear-drop diamond is set at the left bustier of the dress.

The dress is also paired with a six-metre-long train that is decorated with diamonds and Swarovski cystals. It will be a paired with shoes made by Datuk Jimmy Choo.

The 70 carat tear-drop diamond is set at the left side of the bustier.

Yesterday, the designing team of beaders, drapers, cutters and seamstresses, led by Faisol gave the dress its final touches.

The team has been working on the dress for a week for almost 12 hours daily.

“It is more than just a dress. Everyone around the world is interested in it,” Faisol said at a sneak preview of the dress at his boutique in Starhill Gallery on April 1.

President and CEO of STYLO International Datuk Nancy Yeoh said Kavita was the right person to model the dress.

“The couture dress speaks of glamour, life and class.

“So we wanted someone who understood the things that went behind all that and Kavita is just the embodiment of it,” Yeoh added.

The dress is for sale at RM100mil and is designed to be customised to the needs of the buyer.

Five per cent from the sale of the dress will be donated to a Gaza fundraising under Raja Azureen Sultan Azlan Shah’s charity.
